Buckley Residence
Yorkville, California
The single-family residential compound is on 42 acres of classic California rolling hillside dotted with
clusters of majestic oak trees.
The courtyard is a limited, protected
place to garden/landscape while leaving the remaining areas in natural grasslands. The main house was sited to capture the best interior
light and views, and also acts as a wind screen to the swimming pool, which was oriented to capture maximum sun.
The open plan
of the interior maximizes the sense of spaciousness within a relatively small amount of square footage. The main house has 2500 sq.
ft. but appears larger with the addition of approx. 2000 sq. ft. of covered exterior porches, breezeway and screened dining as well
as broad overhangs that provide protection against the summer sun.
